Kauai Adventures
Maui is known as the "Valley Isle" because of the huge valley that extends between its two volcanoes.
On the west there's the extinct volcano of West Maui with its summit at Pu'u Kukui. It rises over 5000 feet and is the second wettest spot on earth with an average rainfall of about 370 inches.
The West Maui mountains, with their velvet green valleys and spectacular waterfalls are among the most beautiful in the world but are so remote that most can only be seen from the vantage point of a helicopter.
Haleakala
forms the other great mountain on Maui and rises almost 2 miles into the air. It is considered dormant rather that extinct and its last eruption was In the 1780's. Scientists expect "the House of the Sun" to become active again someday.
