The following Kauai events are either unique to the Garden Island or are celebrated in a special way. Everyone is welcome to partake in the fun. Most of the events are free or almost free.
Please note that, as with any schedule of upcoming events, the following information is subject to change; always confirm the details before you plan your trip around an event.

January Kauai events
Kauaian Days.
The Annual Island-wide celebration includes a parade, ethnic food booths, arts and crafts, a Keiki land for the children, Hawaiian arts & crafts exhibits and demonstrations, and an International Hula Festival.
February Kauai events
Waimea Town Celebration.
Held on the second or third week of February, this annual party on Kauai's west side celebrates the Hawaiian and multiethnic history of the town where Captain Cook first landed. This is the island's biggest 2-day event, drawing some 10,000 people. Top Hawaiian entertainers, sporting events, rodeo, and lots of food are on tap during the weekend celebration. March Kauai events
Prince Kuhio Day. On March 26, a state holiday honors Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole, Hawaii's first delegate to the US Congress. On his native island of Kaual there's a weeklong festival, including canoe racing, music and dance.
April Kauai events
WalkAmerica. The March of Dimes' biggest fund-raiser. It is also a national tradition with a 32-year history of success. Proceeds from WalkAmerica support the March of Dimes mission of preventing birth defects and infant mortality through research, education, community services and advocacy. Lydgate Park. May
Prince Albert Music Festival. The four-day festival takes place at the Princeville Hotel on the north shore and features a combination of classical music, slack-key guitar, and hula demonstrations, plus fashions, food, and crafts.
June
Banana Poka Festival. An outdoor educational fair held at the Kokee Natural History Museum. Features foot and bike races.
July Kauai events
Independence Day. On July 4, find the island's best fireworks show at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue. Fireworks are also displayed at the Pacific Missile Range Facility west of Kekaha.
Garden Island Championship Canoe Races. This and other canoe events take place at different locations on the island in late July. Events sponsored by Garden Island Canoe Racing Association.
August Kauai events
Kauai County Fair.
In late August, gardeners, stockmen, and craftspeople of the Garden Island display their wares at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue. You will find a pageantry, great local foods, and of course, great bargains.
September
Mokihana Festival.
A week-long event with festivities at various locations along the south coast. Features lei making, hula, music competiion and performance, folk-arts workshops, and local entertainment.
October Kauai events
Emalani Festival.
This festival in Kokee State Park honors Her Majesty Queen Emma, an inveterate gardener and Hawaii's first environmental queen, who made a forest trek to Kokee with 100 friends in 1871. Call (808) 245-3971 for more details.
Coconut Festival. The annual one-day event is held on the Coconut Coast at Kapaa Beach park. Includes food, games, crafts, and performances.
November Kauai events
Hawaiian Slack-Key Guitar Festival. The best of Hawaii's folk music (slack-key guitar) performed by the best musicians in Hawaii. It's five hours long and absolutely free. Kauai Marriott Resort, Lihue.
PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
Top golfers compete for $1 million in prize money at the Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course, Kauai. Last weekend in November.
December
Christmas Craft Fair. An annual event known for attracting the island's best in hand-crafted items and home-baked treats. Held at the Kauai Museum, Lihue. Call (808) 245-6931.
